Our Lady’s Music Group
Music at the Heart of Worship
Music features strongly in our worship at Our Lady’s, and our music group sits right at the heart of our weekly liturgy. With a strong legacy of enthusiastic musical leadership at the church we thrive on bringing music to the ministry through a small group of eager musicians and singers which focusses on the principle of musical love and energy rather than a formal and disciplined choral group.
What we do
Our music group leads the liturgy at family masses on Sundays in Belper, and our seasoned organists and pianists work together to provide music at other masses during the week at both Duffield and Belper.
Easter and Christmas are the highlights of our musical year. We also play at children’s First Holy Communion ceremonies, confirmation masses and other celebrations, including weddings and baptisms on request.
Who we are
Our group is currently made up of keyboard, guitars, ukulele and a number of voices covering a wide range of ages and abilities. We happily indulge a vast range of musical tastes from traditional catholic hymns to gospel, folk and rock-themed songs and mass settings. We aim to keep our entire congregation happy and work hard to deliver on requests and feedback. We regularly experiment with new music and weave this into a more regular slot if it proves successful with the church.
There is a place for you!
We are always looking for new musicians to join us and would love to reach out to you if you are a seasoned or somewhat more hesitant player. We would be delighted to welcome more guitarists, and in particular are keen to talk to ‘lead’ instruments (flute, oboe, violin etc.) which would really enhance our offering right now.
There is no ‘minimum requirement’ or auditions involved and the only prerequisite is your enthusiasm (and possibly a sense of humour!) and your willingness to come and express your faith through the music we play together.
Please come and talk to us after mass, or contact Ed or Liz Turner or 07803 259628.
